Ravi Shastri was finally appointed a coach after the dramatic development of the main coach of the Indian cricket team. For the post of coach, former explosive batsman Virender Sehwag was also considered as a strong contender. Clearly, selecting a name for the selection committee would have been very difficult. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) itself had interviewed both Ravi Shastri and Virender Sehwag for the post of coach. Saurabh Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman are members of this committee. According to reports, both Sehwag and Shastri preferred the BCCI and the CAC, although Ravi Shastri was appointed with the consent of Captain Virat Kohli.
